64 Bit Registry Cleaner - Are They Any Different Than Any Other Kind of Registry Cleaner?

A 64-bit registry cleaner is simply a registry cleaner that is capable of cleaning a 64-bit operating system. It wasn't too long ago; 64-bit operating systems were very rare. Usually only large commercial computers, like servers for instance used them. Now, we are all viewing and in many cases, storing videos on our computers, so we need 64-bit systems. Therefore, we all need 64-bit registry cleaners to clean the registries these operating systems employ. In this article, we will explain why.

Think of a 32-bit operating system as a counter that will count up to the number 1 followed by 32 zeros. What the name is for this number, I don't know. Also, though it is not entirely true; imagine this number represent the amount of power the Windows registry needs to support an operating system that is 32 bits. Now, try to visualize the number 1 followed by 64 zeros. Imagine this represent the power a Windows registry will need to run a 64-bit Windows operating system. By doing this you can easily see the difference between the size of these two OSs.

Comparing Oranges to Oranges

Once you have an idea of the difference between the two systems, you can see that a program designed for 64 bits, whether it is a registry cleaner or some other kind of program will not run on a 32-bit system. This is because 32 bits just won't be enough to accommodate the 64-bit program. In the beginning of 64-bit computers, you couldn't run a 32-bit program on them, either. However now, there is a compatibility mode that usually is switched to automatically when you install a 32-bit program on a 64-bit computer. Still, the reverse is not possible.

64-Bit Computers

A further complication is the fact you need a 64-bit OS to run a 64-bit computer. Installing a 32-bit OS on a big powerful 64-bit PC will just not work. Also, as you probably have already guessed, you can't install one that is 64-bit on a 32-bit computer.

The point of all of this is; these two types of operating system's requirements are much different. So, the types of registries they use are equally as different from one another. Therefore, different registry cleaners are needed to clean their registries. Fortunately, all of the newer 64-bit cleaners I have seen are backward compatible with 32-bit registries. In other words, you will see in the "system requirement" of the registry cleaner that it can be installed on a 32 or 64-bit operating system.

However, older one, built for 32 bit; which in my opinion are outdated, cannot be used to clean the registry of a 64-bit system. Take heart though, most of the new registry cleaners being developed today are compatible with 64-bit systems. Still unfortunately, you must make sure of this fact when you are looking for a cleaner to repair problems with a 64-bit registry.

Top Tips to Speed Up Your Computer

When your PC starts to slow down, it can be a real bind. We have come to depend on our computers so much that having a badly performing PC can seriously impact on our daily lives.

But it doesn't need to be like that. You will be surprised at the variety of things you can do to improve your computer's performance, that involve either no or very little money. You don't need to simply accept that your PC is slow and that there is nothing you can do about it.

Yes, it's true that some solutions may involve purchasing new components, but there's an awful lot of things you can carry out that will either cost you nothing or next to nothing to improve your PC's performance.

Also they're pretty easy fixes, so you don't have to be an expert to give them a try.

Before you spend loads on money on a new PC, read on. So what can you try?

Defragmenting your disk

Windows 7 has improved greatly since Windows XP, but it can still suffer from disk fragmentation over time. New programs get installed and old ones get removed, with the result that a single program can reside on disparate sections of the disk, causing inefficient read and write times. Carrying out a defrag organizes all the applications together again on the disk, so the disk head has less distance to travel.

You can run it quite simply:

Just type 'defrag' into the command line after clicking on the Start menu, or access via Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Click on the 'disk defragmenter' icon. In the utility window, check the % fragmentation of the C: drive is (it's only the c: drive that's important, you can ignore the other drives). If it's greater than 10% then you need to defragment. Don't forget to close all your applications first, and preferably start it last thing at night as it can take some time to complete.

You should only need to do this once or twice a year.

More Memory

Boosting your memory can have a really dramatic effect of your computer's speed, particularly if it is short on memory to begin with. If you're running with 2Gb or less, then you are likely to see a big improvement by upping it to 3 or 4 Gb. The main benefits are faster start-up times, and programs will start quicker!

Memory or RAM is very cheap today. Around $20 should buy you 1Gb of RAM.

You can check your memory in Control Panel, under the System icon.

De-clutter your hard drive

This is especially important if you're running low on hard disk space. Clearing out unused files and programs is a fast and effective way to speed up your PC.

You can happily clean out any files in the c:Windows\Temp directory and all of your Temporary Internet files. A good way to see at a glance where all the space is going is to use the 'Disk Cleanup Wizard', found in Accessories.

And remove all programs you don't need. You can access this via the control panel..

Remove Startup and Indexing Programs

By clearing out any programs that run on startup, you can really increase performance and startup times. You might also want to consider disabling any indexing programs and internet Add-ons - they can really cripple the performance on an already struggling computer.

Try running 'msconfig' and check out the applications in the 'Startup' tab. If you look through the list, you should be able to spot certain applications you don't need - Program update checkers are good candidates for unchecking.

Tweak your display

Tweaking the display settings can help, especially if you have an older graphics card. The new 'aero' feature in Windows 7 can be quite graphics intensive on older display adapters, so disable it if not required. Many features can be disabled such as icon smoothing if your graphics card is not up to scratch.

Clean up the Malware

It's important to always ensure you have a reliable up-to-date anti-virus program. As a extra check run something like Malwarebytes through it just to be sure you're clean.

Tidy your Registry

The registry controls everything in your computer so you need to keep it performing well. Be very cautious when editing the registry as one wrong entry can have serious repercussions. Registry problems can include orphan entries, rogue settings from Malware and fragmentation problems.

Unless you're completely confident, don't edit the registry yourself but use a utility you trust to inspect it for you. Remember to backup the registry prior to changing anything.

Registry errors can also cause unwanted symptoms like blue screen errors and freeze ups, so a good registry scan is always a good idea as part of your housekeeping routine.

How To Fix Your Registry

Do you have a registry that's giving you trouble? Are you wondering about trying to fix it? You basically have two ways to do this. You can take advantage of a good registry cleaner, or you can try to do it manually. Let's explore both options. First of all you'll need to understand what a registry actually is.

What's a registry? - All information that deals with your system and its hardware and software, along with your user configuration data, gets stored and tracked by your Windows registry. Any task you perform while the operating system is working goes through your registry first. What this means is that your registry is the heart of your entire computer system and when it's damaged it's a serious problem. However, no matter what you do this damage to your registry is going to happen. When you properly maintain your computer it will happen slower, but it still happens. This means being able to clean your registry is an urgent and crucial ability.

The second way of cleaning your registry is to do it manually. You can attempt to do this but all the experts will tell you that this is a big risk. If you are not trained for this you can wind up causing way more problems than you already have. It only takes one wrongly deleted entry or file, or one little mistake, and your computer can be totally messed up. Then you will have to call in a professional which can be really expensive.

Repairing Your Registry With A Cleaner - When you opt for using a good cleaner as opposed to repairing your registry manually you have made a wise choice. These software programs can safely remove and repair all the errors that are slowing down your computer. It can do all this with just one simple click of your mouse. Even the experts use these programs. Good registry cleaners are able to remove literally hundreds of errors quite easily.

You need to be careful though because you'll find that there are many registry cleaner programs out there that are totally unreliable. Some are designed to infect your computer rather than fix it, so you need to only purchase a registry cleaner from a company of good reputation. If not you can pick up malware that will damage your computer even more. Do some research and read some reviews before you fork over your money for a registry cleaner.

To protect yourself you need to have a program that offers a backup so you can restore your PC if anything goes wrong with the cleaning. It will automatically detect and delete unnecessary entries. It will clean up the Start-up manager that control the programs that automatically load when your reboot or turn you system on.

It's always a necessity to run this program as the administrator to let it clear all of your system. Once the installation is complete it will include a sub menu for beginning the cleaning process.

From the sub menu of your application software, you can begin the quick scan of your system files. The scan will then give you a report on the errors it has found. Then you will be given options. You can either repair the errors or ignore them. To repair them you simply select the 'fix' option and the software will automatically fix them.

You also have an uninstall feature. This will uninstall redundant programs and remove them. This ensures that their effect on your operating system is totally eliminated. You do this by using the tool menu and then selecting the uninstall manager.

Your start-up manager controls your application programs that load and start whenever Windows boots up, so users need to take advantage of this application for keeping the OS running smoothly. These tips will help you to keep your computer running faster and a lot more efficiently. A good registry cleaner is highly recommended for a slow computer.
